Call for Sponsors and Volunteers

If you’ve been yearning to sponsor WordCamp Portland 2011 and didn’t know which way to turn, be at peace – we have published our Sponsorship page. Sponsoring WordCamp Portland is a great way to foster the WordPress community and show your support for the WordPress project.

This year, we’re honoring Portland’s iconic bridges with our sponsorship levels – all levels are based on the length (or largest span length) of favorite Portland bridges. Round numbers are so boring, don’t you think?

If you want to help but can’t give cash, don’t despair!  We’re delighted with in-kind donations, and if time is all you have to give, we need that too.  The Volunteer page went up yesterday – check it out and then let us know who you are and how you can help. Since WordCamp Portland 2011 will host the WordPress Foundation‘s celebration of Software Freedom Day, we’ll need even more volunteers than we have in years past.

Hello, my name is…

Hi, I’m Andrea Middleton, and I’m working with Aaron Hockley this year to organize WordCamp Portland 2011. Since I’m new to the Portland WordPress community, I thought I’d tell you a little about myself. 🙂

I’m a native Portlander and a graduate of PSU.  I left Portland in 1995 to travel the world (Mexico City, St. Thomas USVI, and Austin TX) and am now super-excited to be moving my family to my beloved hometown in August.  I also work for Automattic as the coordinator at WordCamp Central, which means I work with WordCamp organizers all over the world to make their events successful and stunning and happy.

We’ve recently posted a call for volunteers for WCPDX 2011; regardless of your level of involvement in the Portland WordPress community heretofore, I encourage you to get involved in organizing WordCamp Portland!  We have need of your expertise, special talents, and enthusiasm.  Please join Aaron, me and all the other people who have already reached out to help us create a superlative event.  If you have any questions or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to reach out by emailing portland@wordcamp.org.

WordCamp Portland 2011: September 17-18 at the Eliot Center

I’m excited to announce that after various challenges planning this year’s event that we have a confirmed date and location for WordCamp Portland 2011.

WordCamp Portland will be held September 17-18th at the Eliot Center in downtown Portland.

Details on registration, the format & schedule, and sponsorship opportunities will be announced shortly.

The lead organizer this year will be Andrea Middleton, a former Portlander who’s in the midst of moving back to our city and she has plenty of blog and WordCamp experience. She’s currently working with myself (Aaron Hockley) along with a few previous WordCamp Portland folks; we’re putting together the pieces to bring another great WordPress/blogging conference to the Portland area.

We wanted to get the date on everyone’s calendar; we’ll have more to announce shortly and you’ll be seeing some big changes on this website. If you’re interested in volunteering to help us out, drop a note to Andrea at portland@wordcamp.org.
